Recording:

  This  is only a camera and does not record without the assistance of a VCR or  DVR.  This camera can easily be connected to a TV or video monitor  using the yellow video cable and you can view the image the camera  produces. 

You  have several options if you wish to record the images the camera  captures.  The cheapest way to record your camera is by using computer  surveillance software and hardware to connect the camera to your  computer. You can purchase the equipment to do this for less than  $200 There is also DVR cards that will allow you to connect your camera  to your computer.  If you do not plan to use a computer you can  purchase a DVR or VCR. 

Motion Detection:
This  is a function of the recorder and not the camera.  Most CCTV recording  devices provide the option to begin recording when motion is detected.
